Grain Farmers of Ontario

Mission: To develop and promote an innovative and successful business environment which will allow our farmer members the opportunity for profitable growth.

Vision: To drive the Ontario grain industry to become a global leader.

Grain Farmers of Ontario (GFO) represents Ontario’s 28,000 growers of corn, soybean and wheat. These crops cover 5 million acres of farm land across the province, and are a major economic driver for Canada. Ontario-grown corn, soybean and wheat crops generate over $2.5 billion in farm gate receipts, result in over $9 billion in economic output, and are responsible for over 40,000 jobs in the province.

Grain Farmers of Ontario is committed to its farmer members by expanding existing markets and creating new uses for Ontario grains, focusing research on opportunities that will affect members’ returns, representing member interests efficiently and economically, promoting bankability and sustainability by partnering with the government, and providing farmers and public with accurate information about grains in Ontario.

Grain Farmers of Ontario can be found at the heart of various new developments in the world of research to improve growth and yields for members, as well as developing new products and novel new uses for Ontario corn, soybeans, and wheat,.

Grain Farmers of Ontario’s office is located in the Ontario AgriCentre in Guelph and has 27 full-time staff.

“The career opportunities at Grain Farmers of Ontario are numerous,” says Barry Senft, CEO. “Staff are involved in many facets of agriculture including research, wheat marketing, communications, government relations and market development.”

Grain Farmers of Ontario also offers internships for university students. Duties include managing the logistics, exhibit set-up and tear down and public communications with the Grain Discovery Zone, an interactive trailer exhibit. Other internships have required skillsets in video production, photography, and project management. Since Grain Farmers of Ontario is an Ontario-wide organization, employees often travel to events across the province, from the March Classic in London to the Ottawa Valley Farm Show in Ottawa.
